A procedure has been launched for the expropriation of land properties falling within the territory of Site No. 2.
The project for new nuclear capacity at the Kozloduy NPP site follows a clearly planned sequence of stages, including planning and design procedures, regulatory approvals, engineering, investment decisions, construction and commissioning. Key preparatory and permitting activities are planned for 2026, while in the period 2027–2030 the focus shifts to technical design, contracting, infrastructure preparation and the start of construction. The next stage, between 2030 and 2036, envisages construction activities, followed by commissioning and licensing.

A procedure has been launched for the expropriation of land properties falling within the territory of Site No. 2.
The PUP was approved by Order, and it enters into force on 08.01.2026.
The company submitted an application to the NRA with a complete set of documents for issuing an order to approve the selected site for the deployment of a nuclear facility - Unit 8.
The Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency issues Permit for determining the location (selection of a site) of a nuclear facility, which marked the beginning of the permitting and licensing regime for Unit 8.
2023 year
The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria gives its consent in principle under Article 45, paragraph 1 of the Law on the Safe Use of Nuclear Energy for the construction of Unit 8 of the Kozloduy NPP.
2020 year
The Chairman of the NRA approves the site selected by "Kozloduy NPP - New Builds" EAD for the location of a nuclear facility - nuclear power plant (Site No. 2).
2019 year
Based on an effective EIA Decision, an updated written request has been submitted to the NRA for issuing an order for approval of a selected site, within the meaning of Art. 33, para. 4 of the ASUNE.
2015

Decision on EIA No. 1-1/2015. The Minister of Environment and Water approves the implementation of an investment proposal for the construction of a new nuclear power plant of the latest generation on Site 2 of the Kozloduy NPP site„
2014 year
Independent verification of the results and assessments obtained during the study and determination of the location of a new nuclear power plant at the Kozloduy NPP site, carried out by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
Activities to prepare the safety justification for the NAM "Preliminary Safety Analysis Report" have started.
2013
Site selection activities are being completed - Site 2 of the Specialized Technical Council has been selected.
The NRA issues to "Kozloduy NPP - New Builds" EAD a permit for determining the location (site selection) of a nuclear facility.
